Need For Speed. The accelerometer based racing controls in Need For Speed are as close to perfect as they could come.

Will have to give it a shot.
To be honest, I generally don't like games that use the accelerometer as their main form of input.

The games have to do it just right to make it work. There seems to be a little bit of lag time with the accelerometer -- so that has to be taken into account.
I think the demo I played of Real Racing at GDC was even better than Need For Speed though. Racing games are certainly a place where it works better than others.

I feel like DIzzy Bee and some of the other Marble Maze type games have done it very well. I never felt a disconnect with the controls. I feel it's a good implementation.
I'd have a hard time giving out an award for best use. Sometimes the best use is subtle but intuitive, like Topple's use for balancing... For example, I really don't care for games that make me shift from touch control to accelerometer control during frantic action. I think this is just a pet peeve and I try not to grade down for it. A couple of examples are rotating the Symbol6 platform and the Matrix slow-down maneuver in Reflexion (which I never use). I love both of those games and I know that Symbol6's usage is integral, but there's something about it that bothers me....

Bounce On--rolling platformer--uses the accelerometer very well. It's only 2D movement, so you really have a lot of control; it's still one of my favorite games. And Marble Blast was good, too.
I haven't tried Need for Speed yet, but I probably will bite the bullet and buy it sooner or later.
I still have Super Monkey Ball in my iPhone. I also love how "real" Cooking Mama is.

Aqua Moto 2 lets you use accelerameter or manual control- both are awesome- a really good game in the spirit of waverace 64.
